The extension of Berth no 5 to accommodate a travelling shiploader for the export of iron ore out of the port.
The extension consisted of 64 driven steel tubular piles supporting a grillage of steel work for the support of a shiploader and fixed conveyor system.
Marine & Civil were also responsible for the installation of a shiploader rail to the existing deck and a precast / insitu concrete composite shiploader maintenance platform added to the existing deck with 5 breasting and 2 mooring dolphins.
By completing the piling from the existing berth deck and eliminating the need for a barge costs were significantly reduced. The project was completed in line with tight schedule requirements.
