Conceived in the late 1980's following the retreat of a number of construction firms established in marine infrastructure. Marine & Civil Pty Ltd was incorporated in 1992 to specialise in marine related civil engineering (marine infrastructure) and driven piled foundations.
During the initial growth period the company was involved in the construction of marinas, such as Royal Perth Yacht Club and Hillary's Boat Harbour. Other projects included the artificial surf reef, the Graham Farmer Freeway bridge piling, the Narrows Bridge Duplication piling and pile caps and the Busselton Underwater Observatory.
By 2002 after 10 years of operating the Marine & Civil team had established themselves as the marine infrastructure specialist in WA. Significant projects include the design and construction of Berth 2 in Port Hedland for the Port Hedland Port Authority at Point Nelson and the construction of an iron ore load out facility capable of handling Panamax size vessels at the remote location of Koolan Island off the Kimberley Coast.
Strong teamwork was the company's organisational glue during the early days. This remains a key strength today. Management seeks engagement at the customer interface, and sees rapid response and expediting as a key differentiator.

The continuing evolution of Marine & Civil Pty Ltd reached a new level in 2011; when Thiess Pty Ltd acquired a 50% shareholding in the Company. Marine & Civil Pty Ltd continues to operate as a private independent company and has its own board of directors to represent the shareholders interest.
